  • Singular nouns name one person, place, or thing.

  • Plural nouns name more than one person, place, or thing.

How to Make Plural Nouns

Add -s to most nouns.

  • Example: bird → birds, snake → snakes

Add -es to nouns ending in ch, sh, s, ss, or x.

  • Example: finch → finches, dish → dishes, box → boxes

For nouns ending in consonant + y, change the y to i and add -es.

  • Example: butterfly → butterflies, puppy → puppies



Irregular plural nouns
are nouns that do not follow the regular plural rules (like adding -s or -es).
  • Instead, they change form or stay the same when they become plural.

Examples of Irregular Plural Nouns

  • child → children

  • man → men

  • foot → feet

  • leaf → leaves

  • tooth → teeth

  • mouse → mice

  • goose → geese

  • sheep → sheep

  • moose → moose
