 Today's Lesson:  1)Week 4 Unit Test correction  2)Writing Worksheet 1 - My Family  Students learned the following writing steps:  1)Organizing: gather and organize ideas about the topic 2)Drafting: Write ideas in sentences and paragraphs 3)Revising and Editing: Check grammar, spelling and punctuation  4)Final Draft: Write /print the final draft nicely  Structure of a short passage: 1)Title 2)Introduction 3)Body 1 / 2 /3  4)Conclusion (Ending) Homework:  1)Complete Writing Worksheet 1 and copy the final draft onto Bubble Book W.  (Writing Worksheet 1 has to be stapled on Bubble Book W together.) 2)Please sign Week 4 Unit Test

 Note to the parents:  Quiz & Unit Test clarification Every odd week (Week 1, 3, 5, 7, 9...... ) students have a short QUIZ on that Friday.              Quiz covers only the VW of the week: spelling and definition.  That being said, this Friday 9/15 quiz will cover Week 3 VW spelling and definition.  Every even week (Week 2, 4, 6, 8....) a Unit Test on that Friday             Unit Test covers VW for both weeks: spelling and definition, gap fill, and phonics. Plus comprehension questions about the article /story from RS for those 2 weeks. For example, Week 1 & Week 2: A Froggy Fable.  Today's lesson:  1. Week 2 Unit Test correction in class, all mistakes must be corrected in blue ink (pen) and parents please check and sign. 2. RS page 58-61 :     1)sequence : the order that things happen in a story      2)clue/ key words: first , then, next, last      3)antonyms: words with opposite meanings         long - short / warm - cold / bumpy - smooth      4) life cycle of an oak / plant          seeding in the soil - roots come out to anchor and absorb water and nutrients - a sprout comes out - it grows into a sapling - it grows into a mature tree - flowers bloom and bear fruit - seeds can be obtained and the life cycle starts all over again.  3. Review and class discussion: RS A Froggy Fable            Lesson / Message it tries to convey: how to face and handle changes and challenges.            Stay positive whenever we encounter changes, and cherish what we have at the moment.  4. Review adjective ~ an adjective describes a noun.  It tells how something looks, sounds, tastes, feels or smells. (our 5 senses)  NO HOMEWORK, please study the following:  1. VW week 1 & 2 (gap-fill and definition matching), 10 HF high frequency vocab (listening and dictation) 2. "le" words on RWN pg 293  3. Worksheet 1  4. Adjectives will be included

Dear all parents, please kindly refer to the following.   1. Textbook: Reading Street (RS)  Mon - Wed: keep in class. Students need a hard copy to follow and read long in class.   Thurs - Fri: students can take home to study, but they need to take it back to class.  Reader's & Writer's Notebook (RWN) :  Mon - Wed: keep in class.  Students work on it in class unless they have homework.  Thurs - Fri:  students can take home to study, but they need to take it back to class.  2. RS student online account: is being processed, will keep you posted when available.  3. Friday Unit test:  1st Unit test will be on this Friday.  The test covers:  a)Week 1 & 2 vocabulary (listening, spelling and gap-fill ) and definition (matching)  b)"le" words and meaning on RWN page 289 & 293 Worksheet #1 is given as homework, Unit Test will be very similiar.  Today's lesson: 1. Review Week 1 and Week 2 vocabulary pg. 44 -45 2. New vocabulary Week 2 #7-24  3. RWN pg. 294  4. Phonics : C+le      "le" is a schwa sound. It blends with the C (consonant) in front of it.       ble , dle, gle, kle, ple, tle, zle      Open word has a long sound, as in:   ma ple (long "a")     Closed word has a short sound, as in : bub ble ( short "u") We will practice more tomorrow.  Homework:  1. Copy Week 2 #7-15 x 1, definition x 1  2. RWN pg289 (those who have finished in class, handed in their RWN already. They did good.) 

September 4 Monday

Today's lesson:  1. Review and practice Week 1 vocabulary #1-18.  2. New vocabulary #19 -24.   3. Adding #25 to Week 1 crash/crashed(verb): to fall, hit and be damaged with force and a loud noise.  4. RS pg 24-27~ a) Frog's life cycle and life in a pond discussion in class.                               b) adjective to describe a frog  5. RWN pg290  Homework: 1.Copy Week 1 VW#19-24, and 25, Week 2 VW#1-6 (total 13 VW) x 1, and definition x 1 

September 1, Friday

First day of September.   Students reviewed the months and how to write the date.  "It was August 31st, 2023 yesterday.  And, today is September 1st 2023."  We also reviewed the ordinal numbers, 1st ~ first, 2nd ~ second, 3rd ~ third, and "th" from fourth to tenth. They will practice writing the date in English every day! 😊 Homework:  1. copy vocabulary #4 - 18 x 3 times (Mon - Thurs ~ copy only 1 time;  Fri and weekend~ copy 3 times so they can study at the same time.) 2. definition #4 - 18 x 1 (definition is always 1 time) Thank you all parents for your close attention.  We will pick up the pace pretty soon next week. 💪
