1. Reading Street story: Letters Home from Yosemite p.144-163

  •     Skim and scan through the story for main ideas and important facts:
  1. Yosemite Park is America's third national park 
  2. The Americans started to protect/preserve it in 1864. 
  3. President Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant to make it a national park. 
  4. Scottish naturalist - John Muir was the 1st to visit Yosemite, he convinced the US government to preserve it. 
  5. Native American - Miwok Indians lived in Yosemite about 7000 - 10000 years ago. 
  6. 94% of Yosemite is kept as wilderness - people can only reach by foot or horseback. 
  7. Badger Pass is California's 1st ski spot. 
  8. More than half of America's highest waterfalls are in Yosemite.
  9. The prettiest is Bridalveil Fall. 
  10. Grizzly Giant is the oldest sequoia about 2700 years old and 300 feet tall. 
  11. Some of the wildlife are: black bear (about 300-500 pounds), mule deer, bobcats, coyotes.....and steller's jay. 
  12. El Capitan is the biggest single block of granite on Earth. 
  13. Yosemite Falls are the highest waterfalls in North America, it is 13 times higher than Niagara Falls.

3.  Adverbs of frequency: before the action verb!
