 Oral Public speaking focuses on expository texts.

 Reading Street Stories and Readers and Writers Notebook

The following stories from our Reading Street curriculum will be included in the exam:

1.       Coyote School News p. 202-219                                                      RWN p.120-130

2.       The Man Who Named the Clouds p. 322-335                  RWN p.178-188

3.       Adelina’s Whales p. 350-362                                        RWN p.189-199

Be sure to review each story thoroughly, including its key elements, vocabulary, and comprehension questions.

 Vocabulary

The exam will cover all vocabulary words from Week #12 to Week #17. Week #18 words will not be tested.
For each word, you must know:

l   Spelling&Phonics

l   Definitions and Matching

l   Usage in sentences

l   Recognition of the word in a reading passage or by picture.

It is important to be familiar with each word and its meaning, as well as how to use it correctly in sentences.

 

Grammar

The exam will cover all grammar from the RWN from Weeks #12 to Week #17. You must know:

l  Regular and Irregular Nouns

l  Word Endings –ed, -ing

l  Action and Linking Verbs

l  Context Clues

l  Homophones

 

l  Multipule Meaning Words

 

Story Comprehension

Each of the three stories mentioned will be tested for comprehension. You will be asked to demonstrate your understanding of the following aspects:

l   Main Characters
Be able to identify the main characters in each story and their roles. Understand the relationships between the characters and their importance to the story.

l   Story Genre
Know the genre of each story (e.g., biography, fiction, realistic fiction, folktale, etc.) and understand the characteristics that define it.

l   Knowledge of the Story
There will be questions on specific details from the stories. Be familiar with:

Key events

l   Lessons or morals learned from the stories

l   The problems and solutions faced by the characters

l   The setting and how it affects the story

 Exam Format

l   Multiple Choice: Vocabulary recognition, story comprehension, and sequencing.

l   Fill in the Blanks: Spelling and sentence usage of vocabulary words.

l   Short Answer: Definitions and questions about the main characters and story details.
