2. Main and helping verbs: RWN p.192
A main verb tells what the subject does or is.
A helping verb works with the main verb to show time or meaning.
🟢 Main verb: She runs fast.
🟢 Helping + Main: She is running fast.
Common helping verbs: is, am, are, was, were, has, have, had, will, can
✅ Examples:
I am eating lunch. (am = helping, eating = main)
They have finished the game. (have = helping, finished = main)
We play soccer. (play = main verb only)
A fact is something that is true. You can check or prove it.An opinion is what someone thinks or feels. It is not always true for everyone.🟢 Fact: The sun is a star.🟡 Opinion: The sun is the most beautiful thing in the sky.🔍 Clue words for opinions: I think, I believe, best, worst, beautiful, fun, boring✅ Examples:Fact: A giraffe has a long neck.Opinion: Giraffes are the coolest animals.
4. Homophones RWN.193, 198
Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings and different spellings.
🟢 They sound alike, but they mean different things!
✅ Examples:
meat (food) / meet (to see someone)
flour (for baking) / flower (a plant)
pair (two things) / pear (a fruit)
