 Today's lesson

1. Week 6 VW and definition

2. Reading Street: The Horned Toad Prince p.116-129   https://wordwall.net/play/88594/993/850?authuser=0

Genre: Trickster Tale (at least 2 characters ~ a smaller/weaker one outsmart the bigger one)

Setting: on a prairie near the arroyo, Reba Jo and her padre lived at a ranch house.

This is a twist to the classic fairy tale known as The Frog Prince.

Both stories are about a magical creature that turns into a prince, but there are some big differences.

Key Differences:

Setting:

  • The Frog Prince happens in a castle, but The Horned Toad Prince takes place on the prairie with cowboys and desert land.

Characters:

  • In The Frog Prince, the magical creature is a frog. In The Horned Toad Prince, it's a horned toad that fits the desert setting.
  • The princess in The Frog Prince is royal and graceful. Reba Jo in The Horned Toad Prince is a sassy cowgirl who loves roping and singing.

The Problem:

  • In The Frog Prince, the princess is forced to keep her promise. In The Horned Toad Prince, Reba Jo breaks her promise at first, which makes the story more exciting.

The Ending:

  • In The Frog Prince, the princess marries the prince. In The Horned Toad Prince, the prince simply thanks Reba Jo and leaves, reminding her that "A deal's a deal."

Moral/Lesson:

Both stories teach us to keep our promises and be kind to others, but The Horned Toad Prince also shows that learning from mistakes is important.

3. Review synonym and antonym, students need to spell the vocabulary.
