Today's lesson
1. Review regular and irregular plural nouns.
Regular plural nouns: by adding "s/es" to the singular noun.
"s / ss / ch / sh / o / x / z " adding "es" to the singular noun : bus / dresses / churches / dishes / heroes / foxes / *quizzes
Irregular - nouns don't follow this rule.
1. f/fe (only 1 "f") -- drop the "f" change it to "ves"
example: loaf - loaves ; knife - knives
exception: 1."ff" (2 f) : cuff - cuffs ; puff - puffs
2.roof - roofs ; chief - chiefs ; giraffe - giraffes
3. some words with ending "f" can be spelled either way: calfs/calves ; wharfs/wharves ; hoofs/hooves ; dwarfs/dwarves
2. exception for "o" ending nouns:
if the word is related to music, just add "s": piano / pianos ; cello / cellos; solo/ solos; banjo/ banjos ; radio/ radios; video /videos
if the word is a shortened form: photo (photograph) = photos
if a word has a vowel + "o": zoo / zoos ; kangaroo/ kangaroos
3. some words change the spelling:
child / children ; man / men ; mouse / mice;
foot / feet; goose / geese ; tooth / teeth
4. some words don't change the spelling:
fish / fish ; deer / deer ; sheep/ sheep
