 Today's lesson 

1. Reading Street story: Coyote School News p.202-219

Summary: 

  1. The story takes place in Arizona on a large ranch.

  2. Ramón Ernesto Ramírez lived with his vaquero family on Rancho San Isidro.

  3. Ramón’s family raised cattle and helped with roundups.

  4. Miss Byers was the new teacher at Coyote School.

  5. Miss Byers lived far away in Rattlesnake Canyon and stayed at the school during the week.

  6. Miss Byers brought her dog, Chipito, to stay with her at school.

  7. Miss Byers started fun activities like baseball games and a school newspaper.

  8. The school newspaper was called Coyote School News.

  9. The children wrote stories about their lives and family ranches for the newspaper.

  10. During roundup, Ramón helped his family with branding cattle.

  11. The children helped pick and string chiles after school.

  12. Ramón broke his wrist by riding in the back of a truck.

  13. He didn’t tell his dad about his wrist at first because his dad warned him about truck rides.

  14. On Nochebuena (Christmas Eve), they had a big fiesta. Children played with the pinata and received presents. 

  15. Ramón got a silver buckle. 

  16. At the end of the school year, Victor (the tattletale) won the Perfect Attendance Award.

  17. Ramón won the Coyote News Writing Award and received a silver dollar.


2. Regular & Irregular plural nouns
                
                Regular nouns:    adding "s/es" to a noun ~  books/ students/ churches/ foxes
                  ***pay attention: y~ ies are regular!!!!!
    
                Irregular plural nouns: not only by adding "s/es", need to change the base noun
                *** f/fe ~ ves are irregular  but roof/ roofs; hoof/hoofs; cuff/cuffs, cliff/cliffs are regular!!!
                *** video/videos; radio/radios are irregular
