Unit Test revision - VW and definition, Reading Street story comprehension questions.      Review RS summary:  History of the story Lewis and Clark and Me ~ the Louisiana Purchase  The Louisiana Purchase was a large land deal between the United States and France in 1803. President Thomas Jefferson bought this land to help the U.S. grow. After the purchase, he sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on an expedition to explore the new territory west of the Mississippi River. In  Lewis and Clark and Me , the story follows Seaman, a big Newfoundland dog, who traveled with Lewis on this journey. Seaman helped the men by swimming, hunting, and protecting them. The expedition was important because it mapped new lands, met Native American tribes, and helped the U.S. understand the West.  Today's lesson  1.  Read and discuss Reading Street p.52-67 Lewis and Clark and Me.  2. Review elements of story: Try to think of the following when you read a story:      genre     characters     setting (place and time)     main idea      author's purpose: RWN p.51. to entertain (make readers happy/have fun), to inform (give info/facts to the readers), to persuade (to make the readers agree / to do something)     Always read the title: the title may give you a general idea of the paragraph you are to read   3.
